AZWAY

Arizona Wrestling

Association for Youth

AZWAY was founded in Arizona with the primary purpose of supporting and building the folkstyle wrestling community. Our main focus has been, and will continue to be, two fold: 1) Development through local competition, primarily in the form of hosting tournaments; 2) Development through regional and national competition. As such, we decided to experiment with the concept of hosting tournaments on Sundays, a concept that has worked well in other communities, such as Colorado and California. However, there does not seem to be support for this concept in Arizona. Therefore, we have decided to cancel the remainder of the regularly scheduled tournaments for this winter season.

AZWAY is committed to the success of folkstyle wrestling in Arizona. Thus we will be focusing more on regional and national competitions. We will be taking teams to various tournaments throughout the year. Furthermore, we will also be hosting periodic camps, clinics and tournaments throughout the year. We look forward to watching our Arizona wrestlers grow and develop through high quality year-round instruction. We will post upcoming events on our web site, www.azway.org, as well as on AZWrestler.

We are currently working on the January trip to California. Details can be found at News and Events.

AZWAY is now accepting memberships.  Please visit the Membership Page to sign up for either Club Memberships or Individual Memberships.  Club Memberships are $75 and Individual Memberships are $15 for wrestlers associated with a Member Club, and $30 for wrestlers at large.

AZWAY is proud to announce that they have partnered with Embry Riddle University to turn the Kick-off Classic from a single day exhibition to a two day fundraising event to be held September 25th and 26th. All proceeds from this event go directly to support the Embry Riddle University wrestling program. Since its inception Embry Riddle Wrestling has provided scholarships to many wrestlers from Arizona and AZWAY is extremely supportive of that effort.

Now that it is a two day event, the format will change to provide more opportunities to wrestle. On Saturday the teams will be split into two pools which will determine the seeding for a bracketed tournament to be held Sunday.

For the high school division there will be a 5-pound allowance for the Kick-off Classic with an additional 5-pound allowance for the wrestle-offs which will still be held September 4th at Camp Verde. Junior high will not have a weight allowance for the event and must be within 5-pounds for the wrestle-offs.
